It took me a long time to understand my water lilies… I cultivated them without thinking of painting them… A landscape does not become part of you in one day… And then, all of a sudden, I had the revelation of the enchantment of my pond. I took my palette. Since then, I have hardly had any other model.
You have to catch the light and throw it directly onto the canvas.
What I will do here will at least have the merit of resembling no one else, because it will be the impression of what I will have felt, myself alone.
